(KNOX) –Both the North Dakota House and Senate have passed two bills regarding the future use of kratom in the state. The House passed a bill that would ban the sale of natural kratom to anyone under 21 years old, while the Senate passed a bill fully banning kratom and its derivatives. Republican State Senator Scott Meyer of Grand Forks tells KNOX’s The Ryan Cunningham Show on Thursday that the House seems to be against an outright ban.
Meyer is serving on a joint appropriations committee that will decide on whether to restart the funding for the military gallery construction in Bismarck. He likes Republican Representative Glenn Bosch’s recommendation of a $20 million line of credit.
The $20 million would be repaid with donations, which would have the $78 million project be paid for through state and private funding evenly. If the loan is not repaid by March 2029, the bill allows the Legislature to decide to either push back the repayment deadline or to find other ways to fund the project.
The special session is scheduled to end today.
