Sobriety Checkpoint Being Held In Grand Forks County Saturday

(KNOX) – The North Dakota State Patrol will hold a sobriety checkpoint at a predetermined location on Saturday, September 5 in Grand Forks County. Saturation patrols will also be held on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5.

As of August 29th, there have been 72 deaths on North Dakota roadways this year. Nearly 30 percent of those deaths were alcohol related crashes.

North Dakota State Patrol Northeast Regional Sergeant Tanner Smith is reminding the public to “Celebrate Labor Day and the end of summer responsibly; don’t gamble with someone’s life. If you’ve been drinking, hand over the keys and find a sober ride. One responsible decision can be the difference between a great weekend and a tragedy.”

This checkpoint is happening amid the state patrol’s commitment to the Vision Zero Strategy. The strategy is based on the belief that any loss of life on roadways is not acceptable. The checkpoint results will be posted on the North Dakota State Patrol website the week after it happens.
