East Grand Forks Approves Renewal of Building Inspector Contract

By Alex Carmenaty Jun 18, 2026 | 7:01 AM

(KNOX) – The East Grand Forks City Council approved a renewed contract for the city’s building inspection service on Tuesday. The council approved a three year contract for TrueCheck LLC by a 5-2 vote. One of those that voted against the measure was Tami Schumacher. She says TrueCheck is not easy to work with and that two builders are hesitant to take jobs in the city because of the current system.

City Administrator Reid Huttunen says he spoke to employees from the state Department of Labor and Industry, and they told him that TrueCheck does a good job communicating about their projects. Huttunen also offered the possibility of getting professional mentorship for TrueCheck to address communication issues.

There is a rate of $115 per hour for inspections and plan review and $80 for driving to and from East Grand Forks. The new contract will last until 2029.
