(KNOX) -There will be several temporary road closures later this week in Grand Forks. The Public Information Office says the closures will happen on Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning, as a funeral procession will be held for a World War II prisoner of war missing in action who’s returning home after more than 80 years.
The first closure will happen late Thursday afternoon when the funeral procession exits I-29 onto 32nd Avenue South. It will then turn north on South 34th Street to Veterans Memorial Park. Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks will care for the remains ahead of the funeral service.
On Saturday morning, the funeral procession plans to leave Amundson Funeral Home and head south to 32nd Avenue South. The procession will then exit back onto I-29 and head west on Highway 2 to Dahlen. That’s where the veteran’s remains will be laid to rest.
The city has not said at what times these road closures will happen. Law enforcement will help block traffic while the procession goes through town.
