(KNOX) –The cities of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks will have a citywide mosquito spray tonight between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m.
West Nile virus has been identified in the region and the mosquito most common for transmitting West Nile virus is the Culex tarsalis. This mosquito is most active from sundown and throughout the night into the early morning hours.
Health experts recommend wearing repellent with DEET, long sleeves, and pants, and eliminating standing water around the home as a way to avoid mosquito bites. You can learn more about trap counts and the Grand Forks Mosquito Control Program by going to www.grandforksgov.com/mosquito.
