(KNOX/WZFG) –North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak and Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach have introduced the Diesel Engine Flexibility Act. This would make Environmental Protection Agency guidance into federal law for diesel exhaust fluid sensors.
If the technology doesn’t detect enough DEF, it can derate vehicles, limiting their ability to function to as low as five miles per hour.
In March, the EPA removed the requirement for DEF sensors and ruled NOx sensors can be used instead to meet regulatory requirements.
The bill would require future emission standards to wait five years before taking effect.
The EPA said farmers will save $4.4 billion in repairs and lost productivity because of changes with DEF sensors.
