(KFYR) – North Dakota leaders are remembering U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham following his death Saturday.
Gov. Kelly Armstrong has directed U.S. and North Dakota flags to fly at half-staff until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 18, in accordance with a directive from President Donald Trump.
“North Dakota joins the nation in mourning the loss of Sen. Lindsey Graham, a devoted public servant, statesman and friend,” Armstrong said in a statement. He said Graham’s decades of service would leave “an enduring legacy.”
Sen. Kevin Cramer said he was “shocked” by the news, calling Graham “a joy to serve with.”
“I just can’t imagine going to work in the Senate without Lindsey,” Cramer wrote on social media. “One of the most important lessons I learned from Lindsey was to never let someone else rob you of your joy. He lived that lesson every day.”
Sen. John Hoeven and his wife, Mikey, also expressed condolences, calling Graham “a good friend and colleague.”
Hoeven said Graham’s military service and leadership on defense, judiciary and budget issues would have a lasting impact, adding that he and his wife are praying for Graham’s family.
