A weather drone analytics company is looking to set up shop at Grand Sky.
Tru-Weather hopes to provide more certainty and reliability to forecasts by sending a drone with specific sensors high into the sky at around 17,000 feet. Company CEO Don Berchoff says the current aviation weather system is insufficient for the UAS industry. “As you know weather is a factor in North Dakota. I like weather…and I like North Dakota.”
Berchoff says 30% of unmanned aviation flights cancelled or delayed due to weather could have been flown. He says the cost due to lost flights can equate to 10 to 20% of an operational budget.
In addition to a local $100,000 dollar accelerate loan from Grand Forks the company has secured a $250,000 LIFT loan from North Dakota and is investing $130,000 in company equity.
The Growth Fund Committee recommendation will be reviewed by the Grand Forks J-D-A.
