Parking took center stage as the Grand Forks Planning and Zoning Com-mission reviewed a plat and rezoning request last night (Wednesday) for the Memorial Village II project on the east edge of the UND campus.
The five story mixed use building would be located along 2500-2600 University Avenue. The plan also includes a collegiate softball complex.
An analysis is underway to address parking with the loss of the surface lot. It includes greater use of the nearby parking ramp. City Planner Ryan Brooks says UND officials stress the structure is underutilized.
In addition to the ramp additional surface parking sites have been identified – plus underground parking. Several neighborhood residents raised concerns with the addition of first floor businesses – and additional traffic generated by the softball field.
The P-U-D and rezoning will be reviewed by the city council next week.
