(KNOX) –North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley believes that the State Legislature needs to revise current laws about drivers who flee from law enforcement.
Those who are sentenced on charges relating to fleeing law enforcement can serve time for other crimes simultaneously.
Wrigley is making this statement amid a handful of incidents that have happened over the past few weeks in the Red River Valley alone.
Twenty-four-year-old Moorhead man died last week after he was fleeing law enforcement in Fargo at 120 miles per hour when he was drunk. He crashed into a 19-year-old motorcycle driver who lost his left leg below the knee.
In August, a 49-year-old music teacher died in a crash on Cass County Highway 81 south of Fargo, when a 19-year-old Grand Forks man was fleeing law enforcement at speeds between 140-160 miles per hour. That man homicide and reckless endangerment charges.
More recently, a Grand Forks man was arrested Wednesday when he fled law enforcement after hitting multiple pedestrians and another vehicle with his car before he crashed into both a tree and an apartment building entrance. He’s facing attempted murder charges.
