(KNOX/Learfield) –Vance Boelter returned to Hennepin County court Wednesday as he faces state charges for his role in the deaths of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband. He is facing charges that include two first degree murder counts.
Boelter is already serving two life sentences plus 40 years after pleading guilty to federal charges. His attorneys are seeking a change of venue and modification of his $5 million bail. They are also looking to bring up several potential defenses, which could include double jeopardy.
