(KNOX/Valley News Live) -A Bemidji man has been charged after police say he shot another man and illegally had a gun during a late-night incident at a housing complex.
20-year-old Terrance Lee Jones Jr. is charged with felony felon in possession of a firearm and felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
Bemidji Police found a 27-year-old man who had sustained a single gunshot wound to his shoulder last Sunday at around 10:40p.m. He was taken to Sanford Health for treatment of injuries.
Officers also found three shell casings in the parking lot of the Kestrel Pines apartment complex.
Jones told detectives that three men, which includes the victim, approached him in black clothing, as one of the men pointed a gun at him.
He said he fired two shots in fear for his family, then gave his handgun to another man who left. A search of his home did not turn up a gun.
Jones is not allowed to have a gun because he was previously convicted on an attempted second-degree assault charge that included a firearm.
A judge found probable cause and ordered that Jones be held in jail.
The condition of the victim who was shot in the shoulder has not been released.
