(KNOX/Valley News Live) – The National Weather Service in Grand Forks says an EF2 tornado hit the Floyd Lake area on Monday evening.
In a preliminary survey, NWS Grand Forks estimated peak winds were up to 115 mph, with a path up to 800 yards wide and 6.79 miles long.
The NWS Grand Forks says the tornado started at 7:47 p.m., two miles south-southwest of Westbury and it ended at 7:57 p.m., four miles northeast of Detroit Lakes.
There were damaged roofs, snapped trees, and several damaged garages, as some of them collapsed.
The NWS also says the tornado swept clean a few outbuildings in the Oakland Beach neighborhood and carried a horse trailer about one-eighth mile from its stables.
The survey is preliminary and could change as the agency reviews satellite imagery and other data in the coming days.
