(KNOX) –The Dilworth Police Department is warning residents to be aware of roofing scams after recent severe storms.
Police say that scammers are calling homeowners, claiming they are on their way to inspect storm damage or offer a free estimate. This is happening even though the resident never made an appointment. Police are instructing residents to hang up the phone if they receive a call like this and they should not give out any personal or insurance information over the phone.
Dilworth Police recommend those affected by recent storms should call their insurance company directly to confirm the name of the adjuster and the company they work for.
Residents who believe they have been targeted by a scammer are encouraged to contact police.
