(KNOX) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has announced that next year’s Governor’s Fishing Opener will happen in Cold Spring on May 14 and 15 in 2027. Next year will be the 79th Annual Governor’s Fishing Opener, and Cold Spring is roughly 15 miles southwest of St. Cloud.
This is the first time the city has hosted the opener. The tradition in Minnesota dates back to 1948. Walz is not running for re-election and his term ends next January. There will be a new governor at next year’s opener.
