(KNOX) – On Monday, June 29th, Governor Kelly Armstrong and staff from the State Historical Society will ring North Dakota’s Liberty Bell at the North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum. The bell is a replica of the Liberty Bell that is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The bell was made in France and weighs just over 2,000 pounds, but the replica’s crack is painted onto it. North Dakota received a replica of the bell in 1950, when their people all over the country were being encouraged to buy U.S. savings bonds.

Full-size Liberty Bell replicas were presented to every state and territory, and North Dakota received the 41st replica. $6.5 billion were made in U.S. savings bond sales across the nation in order to help compensate for the costs of World War II.

The bell was displayed at the North Dakota Capitol from 1950 up until 1982. It was then displayed at Century High School in Bismarck from 2001 to 2015.
