(KNOX) – The Grand Forks County Historical Society is hosting the Marilyn Hagerty Peony Show on Saturday, June 20.
According to Executive Director Leah Byzewski, this is the first year the event has been named for Hagerty. Hagerty was a long-time columnist for the Herald and she passed away last September.
The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. Winners, determined by attendees’ votes, will be announced at 5 p.m.
Byzewski recommends that entrants save their peony bud now. Entrants can bring their blooms to the Myra Museum on the grounds of the Grand Forks County Historical Society.The original Peony Show in Grand Forks first happened in 1921 when it was started by Max Kannowski. Kannowski came to Grand Forks with his wife Francis from Mitchell, South Dakota, to serve as park superintendent.
