(KNOX) – At Monday’s City Council meeting, Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski mentioned how his administration has handled public safety, employee wages, and infrastructure.
Bochenski says the city added more police officers and that there have been a lot of investments in public safety.
“We had three police officers we added last year, but we continue to add capital and technology funding, and you saw the rewards of that in 2025 record low crime on record for the city of Grand Forks, so pretty phenomenal to see there.”
Bochenski mentioned on Monday how there have been some cuts to staff, but that current staff received promotions and pay increases.
“Just like any other entities, we do continue to trim up and become more efficient. So, we did have a reduction of 4.5 total FTEs going into 2027 so that did equate to quite a big, big reduction, which we’re able to put towards promotions for our current city staff. Another great year, and we want to keep the folks that we have, so a great chance to be able to get that salary plan funded the way that we’ve wanted to in the past, so I’m excited to bring that forward.”
Bochenski also said that the city is continuing its mill reduction for the seventh straight year, and that 6.83 mills have been reduced since 2020.
“I think we’re the probably one of the few political subdivisions, not just in our region, but in the state, that’s been able to do that. And once again, a budget, we have 3% caps, we’re well below that. So, I think that’s pretty phenomenal, and we continue to make investments that grow the community and spread that tax burden out.”
The next City Council meeting is on Monday, July 6th at 5:30pm
