(KNOX) –A 37-year-old Winnipeg man has admitted to reporting that he was falsely kidnapped, after officials arrested a 31-year-old man in Alexandria, Minnesota. The apparent kidnapping led law enforcement on a search through both North Dakota and Minnesota.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says they were told by Canadian law enforcement of a Manitoba man that reportedly abducted the 37-year-old in Winnipeg. They would eventually cross the U.S.- Canada border into North Dakota.
Law enforcement used information from license plate readers, cameras, and cellphone information to locate the vehicle in Alexandria.
37-year-old Roderick Garson was arrested for falsely reporting a crime. He is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail. The 31-year-old was originally taken into custody and his current status is unknown.
