North Dakota Law Enforcement Starting Summer Speed Enforcement Campaign

(KNOX/KFGO) – North Dakota law enforcement agencies are launching a statewide crackdown on speeding and aggressive driving. 

The “Speeding Slows You Down” campaign will have extra patrols on roads across the state from July 1 through August 9. The initiative is part of North Dakota’s Vision Zero strategy, which loos to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries.

State officials also noted that more people are historically killed on North Dakota roads during warm weather months than during colder seasons.

In 2024, speeding or aggressive driving was a factor in 33 percent of fatal crashes in North Dakota and nearly 53 percent of those killed so far this year in North Dakota crashes were not wearing seatbelts. State data shows that 42 drivers were involved in those fatal crashes, and 57 percent were between the ages of 18 and 44,. 76 percent of the drivers were male.

Traffic safety officials are also stressing the importance of using seat belts. Nearly 53% of those killed so far this year in North Dakota crashes were not wearing seatbelts.
