(KNOX) – A Wahpeton man was charged on Tuesday with gross sexual imposition after investigators said he sexually assaulted a girl who was younger than 15 years old.
Colton Richard Meyer is charged in Richland County District Court with gross sexual imposition, which is a Class AA felony. Court Documents say the assault happened last September, and that the girl met Meyer on Snapchat and contacted him to buy alcohol. Investigators said Meyer picked her up and brought her to his residence in Wahpeton.
The girl says Meyer brought her to a basement room, where he forced himself on her and had unwanted intercourse.
A forensic interview was completed on Sept. 9, 2025, at the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center in Fargo. Court documents say the girl gave a description of the home’s basement that matched what investigators later photographed during a search of the residence.
Meyer was arrested on probable cause. Court documents say Meyer acknowledged a sexual encounter happened and said he knew the girl was underage. He faces a minimum of five years in prison, five years of supervised probation and he would need to register as a sex offender.
