(Dakota News Network) -BISMARCK, N.D.- North Dakota is starting to emerge as a leader in drone innovation throughout the country.
North Dakota Information Technology and Northern Plains UAS Test Site representatives say the state is being used as a testing ground to strengthen the Vantis drone system, which helps make observations in agriculture, public safety, infrastructure, economic development and other sectors.
In April, North Dakota became the first entity to access FAA radar to support unmanned aircraft operations, like ones performed by the Vantis drone. It allowed the drone to receive radar data to monitor surrounding airspace and perform operations while avoiding dangerous areas.
