(KNOX) – Former Grand Forks City Councilman Bret Weber and his family are moving to Utah. Weber and his wife will be moving back to Utah to be closer to grandchildren and other family. They’ve been in Grand Forks since 2005, and Weber served 12 years on the Grand Forks City Council. He represented Ward 3, and his third term ended in 2024 after he decided not to run for reelection.

Weber also worked at the University of North Dakota’s Department of Social Work and spent time on the Grand Forks Housing Authority board. While he was on the board, he was the founding president of the Grand Forks Community Land Trust. He and his wife, Carenlee Barkdull, have worked at UND’s social work department as department chairs.

Weber and his wife say they will plan to visit often because his son, Blue Weber, lives in town. Blue is the executive director of the Downtown Development Association and he is a community outreach liaison for consulting firm Bolton and Menk.

Weber also says that he is grateful the community welcomed him enough to get involved.
