Crookston School Board Passes Preliminary Budget

(KNOX) – The Crookston School Board held a special meeting Tuesday and approved its preliminary budget for the 2026-2027 school year. The budget passed unanimously and total revenues are projected to be $19,383,384. Total expenditures are $19,918,995 for a deficit spend of $535,611.

The revenues will includes more than $2 million in community ed, food services and the debt service fund. There’s also a $30,000 increase in the technology budget because the three year renewals are coming due, and more than $500,000 will be spent on several projects that includes a new fire alarm system in the high school, which is required by the State Fire Marshall. $233,000 will also be budgeted for school curriculum.

Crookston’s enrollment continues to decline, as there will be a projected total of 1,083 students for the upcoming school year. There were 1,124 students for the 2021-2022 school year.

The school board also held a closed session with realtors about possibly selling the Washington School property. No action was taken on that agenda item.
