(KNOX) – The 2027 National Defense Authorization Act was filed and released to the public on Tuesday as the bill now moves to the U.S. Senate floor. The bill included several provisions regarding Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Among other local projects, the bill calls for the Air Force to assess the condition of nuclear facilities at Grand Forks Air Force Base. It would determine what would be required to restore them to operational use.
The bill would also authorize the construction of a $250 million Space Force Operations Facility at the base. The NDAA directs the Air Force to report on the strategy for Iridium’s Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services program, which has strong ties to the University of North Dakota and the Space Development Agency’s operations center in Grand Forks.
Funding for a $71 million pavement and maintenance facility project would also be authorized.
