MN Supreme Court chief justice to retire

After 13 years as chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, Lorie Gildea is retiring.

The native of Plummer (MN) will step down in October.

Gildea has served on the High Court since 2006, She was appointed chief justice in 2010 by then-Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

In a statement, current Gov. Tim Walz thanked Gildea for her service, saying he has “seen firsthand the balance and thoughtfulness she brings to her work each day.”

Walz says he will announce the application process for the court vacancy in the coming weeks.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said: Chief Justice Gildea served the state “nobly and honorably for many years. Under her leadership, Minnesotans knew that the process of justice was in steady and reliable hands. “
