GF county switches courthouse dome funding

By Doug Barrett May 17, 2023 | 7:27 AM

Grand Forks County will tap into a Bank of North Dakota loan rather than go the route of bonding to pay for repairs to the leaky courthouse dome.

The budget for the project has been set at five-million dollars. Finance Director Deb Nelson informed the county commissioner on Tuesday that the loan carries an interest rate two-percent which is “way cheaper” than bonding. Nelson says the money will also be doled out “as needed” rather than all at once.

In a related note the commission agreed to hire Construction Engineers to perform the work on the courthouse project. The company has agreed to the county budget – although specific costs won’t be known until an architect is hired.
