(KNOX) – Governor Tim Walz has authorized the Minnesota National Guard to provide public safety support for the 2024 Republican National Convention.
The convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15 through July 18. It’s been designated as a national special security event by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security due to the scale of security operations required.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency and requested the support of the Minnesota National Guard under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact to supplement local resources.
The executive order will remain in effect until resources are no longer required, or until July 21, whichever occurs first.
