An 8th grade teacher at Valley Middle School has been named Grand Forks Public Schools’ 2023-24 Teacher of the Year. John Stempinski received the honor during a school assembly on Wednesday.
Stempinski received a plaque from Grand Forks Public Schools and a $1,000 monetary award from the Grand Forks Foundation for Education.
The Central High School grad is also a former Valley Middle School student. Following a brief stint teaching Technology & Engineering Education courses at May-Port CG, he returned to Grand Forks Public Schools at Valley Middle School in 2013.
“John possesses a deep understanding of his subject matter and middle school students, effectively communicating in a clear and engaging manner with students. Additionally, he inspires andmotivates students, cultivating a passion for learning and developing CTE skills that go beyond the classroom. John leads by example. He models the behaviors of respect, responsibility and patience for students and staff. He collaborates with his colleagues to create a positive and supportive learning environment at Valley. He actively participates in the community, working with youth and forging connections with our greater learning community.” said Valley Middle School principal Mr. Tad Schye.
Stempinski’s name and information have been submitted to the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction for consideration as a 2025 North Dakota County Teacher of the Year.
