Plans for a 42nd Street rail underpass are taking shape. The city council gave preliminary approval last night to a concept design that will cost in excess of $50 million dollars.
The so-called B-1 alternative would include a tee intersection on DeMers Avenue with a jug handle connection to south 42nd Street. Although the design would impact the golf course it would allow access to the existing gas station on site.
Construction would likely take a minimum of two years to complete.
In June the city secured a $30 million dollar federal grant to help fund the grade separation project. The council will revisit the design plan next week.
