NDUS Chancellor review process set

By Doug Barrett May 24, 2023 | 9:07 AM

A standard review of NDUS Chancellor Mark Hagerott generated a little extra discussion at this week’s Board of Higher Education meeting.

Board member Jeffrey Volk says with the just concluded legislative session maybe it would be wise to include lawmakers in the review process. Board Chair Casey Ryan says that would be a “huge bucket” that could be “skewed” depending upon what lawmakers get picked.

Board member Nick Hacker – a former legislator – says a lot of feedback already goes into the process. Hacker says if lawmakers are brought into the mix it should be a targeted group.

Chancellor Hagerott says he’s always open to additional feedback…but…on certain bills he was not always popular with certain lawmakers.

The board approved the current method of review on a unanimous vote with a report due June 27th.

Meanwhile…the North Dakota Student Association presented the board with a resolution opposing the ban on TikTok on all campus networks. The resolution suggests the actions were based on misconception and misinformation and without consulting students. The State Board of Higher Education banned the China-based social media platform at a March meeting.
