High-risk sex offender missing from Devils Lake facility

Several North Dakota law enforcement agencies are searching for a high-risk sex offender who they say removed his GPS monitor and is missing from a re-entry center in Devils Lake.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Forks Police Department, and the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation are looking for 31-year-old Shawn Johnston.

He was last seen wearing black jeans, a red t-shirt, and black shoes leaving the Lake Region Re-entry Center in Devils Lake around 1:06 AM today (Mon).

Johnston is African American, 6’1”, approximately 155 pounds with brown eyes and short black hair. Authorities say he has ties to Grand Forks and may be returning there.

Johnston is currently on probation for failure to register as a sexual offender with Burleigh County District Court.

Anyone with information about Johnston’s whereabouts should contact their local law enforcement agency.
