(KNOX) –Mayville State University Football Quarterback Matt Donovan suffered a serious brain injury during a game last Saturday and he continues to recover at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. He had surgery on his brain, as he was dealing with a brain bleed. He is currently in a medically induced coma and remains in ICU.
Head Coach Rocky Larson says that the hit Donovan took was clean and not vicious. He didn’t realize Donovan was seriously hurt until there were signs of a serious injury minutes later.
Donovan’s family says his cranial pressure is remaining low and stable. He is heavily sedated and is no longer taking paralytic medication.
Larson and several of Donovan’s teammates visited him and they say that prayers are working. A GoFundMe for his recovery has raised over $78,000.
Donovan is 23-years-old.
