EGF construction bid in limbo

By Doug Barrett May 10, 2023 | 8:57 AM

East Grand Forks may reject the lone bid for street and ADA improvements this summer due to the construction price-tag.

The city council reviewed the numbers last night for the Fifth Avenue NE and DeMers work after the $1.6 million dollar bid came in 24% over engineer estimates.

City Engineer Steve Emery says a number of factors came into play.  “I think it’s timing and just where we are at with the industry and inflated material costs and the demand for labor.”

One of the main funding sources comes from the federal “subtarget” dollars that total $860,000 dollars.

Emery says it’s his opinion that rebidding the project could result in a 10% savings.  The council took no action at last night’s work session.
