A planned street improvement project in East Grand Forks brought about concerns from a non-profit organization that will be impacted by the special assessment costs.
Officials with the Heritage Center made their case before the city council last night (Tuesday) regarding the 5th Avenue NE upgrade. They noted that the organization has just paid off a $27,000 dollar street assessment.
City Engineer Steve Emery says 30% of the $686,469 dollar reconstruction will be assessed – with 70% coming from Federal Subtarget funds.
Mayor Steve Gander urged community members to step up and support the Heritage Center via donations to help cover the bill.
The council advanced project planning on a 6-1 vote.
