The Grand Forks Council held another lengthy meeting last night (Monday) regarding the proposed Fufeng project.
Prior to approving an updated development agreement for the corn milling plant members met behind closed doors to discuss strategy over litigation aimed at stopping the project. The development agreement includes a $5 million dollar Letter of Credit in case the project fails to materialize.
During the public comment period of the meeting numerous people continued to raise concerns over the company’s ties to China.
Several elected leaders have joined the city in asking for a review by the Committee on Foreign Investments to determine if there is a security risk moving forward.

Electric scooters will soon be rolling into Grand Forks. The city council last night (Monday) gave final approval to an ordinance allowing the devices on most streets and sidewalks. The scooters would not be allowed on downtown sidewalks.
Bird Rides Inc. would operate the scooters in Grand Forks. City Administrator Todd Feland says the ordinance doesn’t give the company exclusive rights but they seem to be the only player showing interest right now. The council did tweak the draft and lowered the age for use down to 10. The intent of the lower age is to not penalize families that own private scooters for their kids.
