Dash-cam video of an officer-involved shooting last month has been released by the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Josh Guenther says the video shows part of a March 13th incident in which Deputy Dakota Czerny shot and wounded Shequoya Basswood of Mahnomen.
Gunther says the video shows Czerny ordering Basswood to drop her gun. She turned toward Czerny, pointing her gun at him. Czerny then fired at Basswood.
Guenther also says there’s a Twin Cities coalition promoting a narrative on social media, claiming that Czerny tried to murder Basswood.
The sheriff adds that the group created a “Wanted” poster, which he says “raises serious questions” about Czerny’s safety.
He says the video was released to “make the public aware of the facts.”
Basswood faces numerous charges, including attempted murder and assault.
