(KNOX) –A 19-year-old Grand Forks man who has been charged in Cass County for his role in a deadly car crash has waived his preliminary hearing in a separate Grand Forks felony case.

Cornelio Vasquez IV has four open cases in Grand Forks County, that includes a case for felony reckless endangerment and driving under suspension. The preliminary hearing for the felony case was supposed to happen today, but that has now been canceled. He will move on to his final dispositional conference on December 3rd.
Vasquez has three more final dispositional conferences on October 22, December 10 and December 17 for the other cases. He could end up accepting a plea deal or could schedule a trial at these conferences.
Vasquez IV faces six felony charges in Cass County for his alleged role in a crash last month that killed a 49-year-old man. He was fleeing law enforcement, after Cass County Sherriff’s Deputies broke up a car gathering of 100 vehicles several miles away from the crash site. His Cass County case will remain inactive until the cases in Grand Forks are decided. This could push back the Cass County case for months.
The Cass County crash happened at the intersection of County Roads 81 and 14. Vasquez was apparently fleeing law enforcement at speeds over 140 mph.
Vasquez was arrested on August 25th by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and he’s currently being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.
