Officials say a West Fargo police officer who died Tuesday while on duty suffered a fatal heart attack.
The Cass County Coroner’s Office says 40-year-old Lt. Adam Gustafson suffered from severe coronary artery disease and major arterial blockage, which caused the heart attack.
Gustafson was a 10-year veteran of the West Fargo P-D. He died at a Fargo hospital.

The West Fargo Police Department has identified the officer who died Tuesday as Lt. Adam Gustafson. The 40-year old Gustafson suffered a medical emergency at the police station. He later died at the hospital. Gustafson was a ten year veteran of the W-F-P-D.
Police Chief Denis Otterness says Lt. Gustafson made a lasting impact within the department and will not be forgotten. Otterness says “Lt. Gustafson will be remembered for his contagious smile and laughter, along with his dedication, teamwork and service to the City of West Fargo.”
A memorial honoring Lieutenant Gustafson has been set up in the public lobby of the West Fargo City Hall’s Grand Foyer.
