By Alex Carmenaty Nov 6, 2026 | 10:00 AM

(KNOX) – A childhood cancer nonprofit organization will be having a 24 hour hockey marathon at the Ralph Engelstad Arena tomorrow. LivFree will be making its sixth and final stop of its 2026 nationwide marathon series in Grand Forks, and over 100 players from the U.S. and Canada will participate. The marathon will start on the olympic sheet of ice at the Ralph, and then shift over to the main arena ice after UND’s game. Jim McCaffrey is the LiveFree Chief Inspiration Officer and he explains how the day will go.

46 players are from Grand Forks, and they range from 17 to 59 years old. McCaffrey also shares who will be some of the people playing throughout the day.

McCaffrey enjoys being able to expand the marathon wherever he can, and he’s excited to have it played at one of the more iconic hockey arenas.

UND Hockey plays tonight and tomorrow evening, and Saturday is the team’s Hockey Fights Cancer Night. You can learn more about LivFree by going to livfreetoday.org
