(Valley News Live) — Fargo voters rejected a ballot measure Tuesday that would have changed the city’s form of government from an at-large city commission to a ward-based city council, according to preliminary, unofficial results.
The measure failed by a margin of 6,100 no votes (56.02%) to 4,788 yes votes (43.98%), with 10,888 total votes cast on the question. A simple majority was needed for approval.
With the measure’s defeat, Fargo will continue to operate under its current structure, with the mayor and four commissioners elected citywide.
The Special Election Canvassing Board is scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in the Red River Room at Fargo City Hall to review and certify the results.
The city thanked voters who took part in the election, along with the poll workers and city staff who helped administer it.
