(KNOX) – The Grand Forks County Commission unanimously approved three contracts pertaining to the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office. Two of them involve the technology the department uses and the third one is a highway safety overtime grant.
Sheriff Andy Schneider explained what the contracts were exactly for during Tuesday’s County Commission meeting. Two of the contracts relating to technology were renewed.
One contract is with Guardian RFID. This is a Minnesota based software company where their products are used in the Grand Forks County Correctional Center for the purpose of monitoring inmates with individual bracelets and scanners.
The renewal includes a lease program that would feature upgrades to the scanners and the software.
The lease program would cost roughly $20,000 annually, and Schneider says this lease program would save money and be more affordable than purchasing new equipment.
The contract renewal is for three years and it can be extended for another three years later on.
The second renewal is with SCRAM Systems. This company supplies alcohol monitoring systems that are used by the sheriff’s office.
This contract also is for three years, and Schneider says he might consider looking for a new contract provider in three years time from now.
The third contract is for a statewide law enforcement overtime grant with the North Dakota Department of Transportation. The overtime grant is for $51,804 and it is related to the Vision Zero highway safety program.
