(KNOX) –$5.5 million in federal funding has been awarded to an initiative at the GrandSky business park in Grand Forks.

A release from U.S. Senator John Hoeven’s office says the money will be used for two projects that pertain to Project ULTRA.

The purpose of the funding is to create a counter UAS testbed and to expand unmanned logistics flights.

The counter UAS testbed includes the integration of counter UAS technology that would feature air traffic management systems, and there would be live and simulated UAS attack scenarios.

Cargo flights between Grand Forks Air Force Base and Cavalier Space Force Station would be an example of the expansion of unmanned logistics flights, as well as additional flights from Grand Forks Air Force Base to Camp Grafton.

The release also says that this is the fourth task order awarded to the project since Hoeven was first able to get funding for it.

Hoeven is on the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee and he has been able to secure $16.4 million in funding for Project ULTRA.
