(KNOX) – Grand Forks Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Terry Brenner will be retiring at the end of the school year, and his last day will officially be June 30, 2027.
He submitted a retirement letter to the Grand Forks School Board on Monday, after spending over 40 years in public education. He has spent 37 years in leadership and another nine as superintendent.
Brenner says his decision to retire is “one of the most difficult and reflective decisions of my personal life.”
He is from Devils Lake, and he started his education career as an elementary school principal and teacher in his hometown. He came to the Grand Forks school district in 1995, and has worked as the principal of both Carl Ben Eielson Elementary School and Wilder Elementary School. He has also been the district’s director of curriculum and instruction, and he served as adjunct assistant professor at UND. He has been the district’s superintendent since 2018.
Brenner hopes that announcing his retirement this early in the school year will help the district hire his successor.
