19-Year-Old Grand Forks Man Arrested For Alleged Role In Fatal Crash In Cass County

(KNOX) – A 19-year-old Grand Forks man charged for his alleged role in a fatal crash last week has been arrested. Cornelio Vasquez IV was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, along with both the Grand Forks County and Cass County Sheriff’s Offices.

Vasquez was charged in Cass County Court Monday. He is facing six charges that include homicide while fleeing a peace officer, two counts of reckless endangerment; and reckless driving. He is currently being held at the Grand Forks County Jail and will be transported to Cass County.
Vasquez faces multiple charges including Class A Felony homicide while fleeing law enforcement, a Class B Felony manslaughter charge and a Class B Misdemeanor for reckless driving charge, three Class C Felony counts for reckless endangerment with extreme indifference, and a Class C Felony fleeing a law enforcement officer.
Vasquez IV was going 109 mph in a 55 mph zone, when he was trying to flee a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper. He was driving in a BMW when he struck a Honda Accord that was driven by Ian Frye of Christine. Frye died at the scene.
There were two juveniles with Vasquez in the BMW. The names of the juveniles involved will not be released because of state law. The juveniles suffered non-life threatening injuries and their current status is not known.
