(KNOX) –East Grand Forks City Administrator Reid Huttunen is recommending Paul Hansen to serve as the permanent fire chief. Hansen has verbally accepted the position, and if approved by the council he would receive a salary of roughly $104,000 if he were to be hired. If Hansen were to be the permanent fire chief, there would be vacancies for assistant fire chief and fire department engineer. Hansen told the City Council Tuesday how long it would take to advertise the openings and hire possible candidates.
Public Works Director Jason Stordahl also mentioned plans to advertise for open positions in his department. The mechanic position is currently vacant after Ivan Hagen resigned last month. He also has an opening for a truck driver position, as Barry Nelson will be retiring later this month. This comes as the city is starting to put together their plans for the 2027 budget.
