(Learfield) – Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar and California Senator Adam Schiff introduced the Water Cyber Shield Act, which is aimed at protecting drinking water systems from cyberattacks. This act would give the Environmental Protection Agency greater oversight of cybersecurity at water and wastewater systems. It would also provide funding to help local utilities strengthen their defenses. The proposal follows a series of cyberattacks targeting water infrastructure, including coordinated attacks on more than 30 community water systems in Minnesota in recent weeks.
