(KNOX) – On Monday, the Grand Forks School Board voted unanimously to enter into a five year lease to finance new scoreboards for Central and Red River high schools.
Grand Forks Public Schools interim business manager Ryan Gatzke says a lease allows the district to make payments over time since there isn’t enough funding currently to make one single payment for the scoreboards.
The School Board voted in May to replace Red River and Central’s scoreboards with ones that would have video capabilities. They also voted to replace the scoreboard base at Cushman Field. The projects are being fully funded through advertising agreements that have been made with businesses.
The School District has entered a contract with South Dakota-based company Daktronics to build the scoreboards. The scoreboards will cost $560,657.
Monday was also the first official meeting for five new School Board members.
JoNell Bakke, Allyse Dunnigan, Brianna Hall, Lori Kramer and Mary Adams all won their seats on the board in June. They were all sworn in earlier this month.
The board also voted 6-2 on two occasions in order to elect JoNell Bakke as board president and Allyse Dunnigan as vice president. Members Jay Kleven and Amber Flynn were also nominated for president and vice president, but they didn’t receive enough support.
