Montana-Dakota Utilities Asking For 14.5 Percent Electric Rate Increase

By Alex Carmenaty Jul 13, 2026 | 8:31 AM

(KNOX) –Montana-Dakota Utilities is asking North Dakota regulators for a 14.5 percent electric rate increase.

MDU filed an application with the North Dakota Public Service Commission on June 30, and a spokesperson for MDU says the company has seen an increase in operating and maintenance expenses since 2022. They also say they’ve been investing in upgrades across its system.

MDU says the request is not because of data centers and that its electric rates in North Dakota are both competitive and below national averages.
