(KNOX) –The Altru Health System Board of Directors has voted to continue their pursuit of acquiring three hospitals in central North Dakota. All three hospitals are St. Alexius Health Hospitals; located in Bismarck, Turtle Lake and Garrison.
The hospitals will most likely still have an affiliation with the Catholic Church if a deal goes through between Altru and CommonSpirit Health.
Altru leaders announced a letter of intent in January to “explore a potential agreement” to acquire the hospitals. This announcement came days after Altru’s acquisition of CommonSpirit’s Devils Lake hospital.
Altru President Dr.Joshua Deere says it’s unlikely there will be any public movement in the coming weeks, but that the process could last from several months up to a year.
Altru does have a current plan to have the three hospitals stay in association with the Catholic Church. There would be some sort of board representation by members of Benedictine Sisters of the Annunciation Monastery in this plan. No other Altru facilities would be connected to the Catholic Church.
